‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ by Dr Seuss happens to be one of my favourites, and Ryan Gosling happens to be my favourite male actor, so put the two together in one of the great films ‘Fracture’ – it’s a perfectly, perfect scene that I must share with you.
This poem for me is timeless, it’s one of those when I hear the words, I’m like, yeah right, that’s SO how I feel right now.
And right now is one of those moments. One of those moments as I go through my things methodically, what to pack for the road pile, the giveaway pile, and the throw out pile. Parov Stelar is playing LOUD to keep me focused. But I realise I’m not focused because I’m thinking of Dr Seuss and ‘Oh, the places you’ll go’, I wonder where those places will be? Where will I go? That’s when I realise I’m playing the waiting game. Just like in the poem.
‘Will you come to a place where the streets are not marked
Some windows are lighted but mostly they’re darked
A place you could sprain your elbow and chin
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose
How much can you win
And if you go in, should you turn left or right, or right and three quarters, or maybe not quite.
You can get so confused that you’ll start in a race
Down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace,
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed I fear towards a most useless place
The waiting place
For people just waiting
Waiting for a train to go
Or a bus to come
Or a plane to go
Or the mail to come
And the rain to go,
Or the phone to ring
Or the snow to snow
Or waiting around for a yes or a no
Or a string of pearls
Or a pair of pants
Or a wig with curls
Or another chance.
Excerpt ‘Oh, the Places you’ll go’ ~ Dr Seuss
Yes, I guess we’ve all played the waiting game at some point in our lives.
So, now back to the music, *puts hands on hip, finger to lip* and talks out loud: ‘Which pile was that top going in again?’
Party on lovers! Peace Out.
